Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday attacked the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over the suicide of two Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSTC) workers.

“Two ST workers committed suicide due to the non-payment of their salaries. Their suicide is painful and heartbreaking. Despite constant correspondence regarding their grief, the state government did not pay attention,” Fadnavis, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said.

The ST employees committed suicide within a span of 12 hours. In his suicide note, one of the workers blamed the Uddhav Thackeray government for non-payment of dues and reduction in salaries.

“Thackeray government is responsible for my suicide,” Manoj Chaudhary wrote in his suicide note.

“The government should wake up now. ST staff and their families are in dire straits. What action will be taken against those responsible for these two deaths in Jalgaon and Ratnagiri? Will the government take responsibility for these suicides?” Fadnavis asked.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar demanded the arrest of Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab while holding him and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray accountable in the suicide case of ST worker Manoj Chaudhary.

“If Arnab Goswami can be arrested in Anvay Naik suicide case, why the ‘shameless’ Thackeray government arrest Transport Minister Anil Parab in the suicide case of ST driver Manoj Chaudhary?” Bhatkhalkar asked.

Pravin Darekar, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Council, said that a murder case should be filed against the Thackeray government to give justice to the ST workers across the state.
