According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday, January 7, asked schools not to force grade 1-8 students to undertake in-person examinations.

Based on accounts, the BMC Education officer Rajesh Kankal told state as well as non-state board educational establishments to provide students with the opportunity to give online exams. It has been reported that grades 1-8 fall within the purview of the civic authority.

Presently, all schools are holding hybrid classes. However, reports have been doing the rounds of how parents have been complaining about how certain schools are compelling children to write their examinations in the physical classrooms.

Narratives have quoted principals elaborating on how offline classes have witnessed over 60 per cent attendance post the reopening on January 24, however, when it comes to exams, the majority choose the online option. Considering a no-fail policy is in force for grades 1-8, pupils are assessed by means of cycle tests, semester and final examinations.

Certain accounts claim that the majority of schools are looking at an online test for primary students, they are leaning towards holding physical exams for secondary school pupils.

Additionally, grade 9-12 is in the purview of the state education department for which exams have to be conducted in the hybrid model. With SSC exams slated to be held offline next month, certain schools are holding preliminary exams physically.
