According to the latest reports, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHE) is considering launching a new helpline to address the issues brought during the recent student protests.

On Monday, January 31, more than 1,000 students protested in Dharavi against the MSBSHSE’s plan to conduct offline board examinations next month. Based on accounts, they demanded that the exams either be cancelled or held online.

In the aftermath of the protests, state school education minister Varsha Gaikwad remarked that the board will bring into action certain student-friendly measures, but stated that the examinations will be conducted offline.

It has been reported by the Indian Express that an official from the school education department mentioned that there are already two helplines that address technical queries regarding exams and one to help students deal with stress. The official added that discussions are being undertaken to decide if more manpower should be deployed or a separate helpline should be made.

The official, according to narratives, said that a final decision will be undertaken after the board officials meet with Gaikwad.

It has been alleged that students were influenced by social media influencer Vikas Fhatak, popularly known as Hindustani Bhau to conduct the demonstration. Similar protests were held in other parts of the state.
