On Tuesday, November 10, the Maharashtra School Education department announced a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in view of reopening schools in the state.

Schools in Maharashtra are touted to resume from November 21 for classes IX to XII. According to the notice, the students are to attend school on alternate days in order to ensure a 50 per cent attendance. In addition, the guidelines state that a regular school day will span not more than four hours. However, no lunch break will be provided to the students.

Moreover, the students will have to wear face masks at all times. In view of the situation, no one apart from the staff and the students will be permitted inside the premises. The guidelines also assert that thermal screening will be conducted every day for the staff members along with the students.

The Maharashtra School Education department, amidst the COVID-19 crisis, has also asked for parental consent before permitting students to return to schools. This means that attendance will not be compulsory for the students and they will be given a choice to study from their homes. As per reports, online and offline timetables will be prepared by every school in order to guarantee that core subjects such as Maths, Science and English are taught physically whereas the rest of the subjects are taught in online mode.

Earlier this week, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had also informed of the same adding that schools reopening after Diwali will have to take precautions such as the sanitization of school premises and regular health check-ups of teachers before the schools' resume.
