SSC results: Mumbai records average pass percentage of 96.72; highest in 15 years

The results of class 10 examinations in Maharashtra were announced on Wednesday, July 29. Those who appeared for the Maharashtra State Board's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination this year have performed exceptionally with the Mumbai division recording an average pass percentage of 96.72 per cent which has been the highest in 15 years.

This time around 17 lakh students in Maharashtra had appeared for the 10th examination. Like last year, this time too, the Konkan division remained at the top. A total of 98.77 per cent students passed in the Konkan Division.

Sameera Surve from Thakur Vidya Mandir High School has scored a 99.60 per cent. Her total aggregate has been 498. Out of the 498 marks, 483 marks was obtained from the examinations while the 15 marks have been obtained for classical art. Not only this, but Sameera has also achieved more than 90 marks in all her subjects. She scored 90 in English, 99 in Sanskrit, 94 in Marathi, 97 in Mathematics, 96 in Science and 97 in Social Science.

When she was asked about her brilliant results, Sameera stated "I used to do at least two hours of self-study every day. At the same time, I used to read many other books besides my syllabus to improve my grasp of languages. With mathematics, I used to solve questions by practising on my own. I have always got support from my parents, they never said that you have to focus only on studies, they also asked me to do other activities and encouraged and asked me to study along with it.”

This year, a total of 8,360 schools (37.04 per cent) in Maharashtra clocked a cent per cent result. Also, 242 students scored a perfect 100 per cent, which includes two students from the Mumbai division. Social sciences, which included the cancelled Geography paper of 40 marks, recorded a 100 per cent result. The number of students scoring 90 per cent and above was also at an all-time high with 83,262 students from the state and 14,756 from the Mumbai division achieving the feat. In 2019, the numbers were 28,516 and 5,399 respectively.
