According to the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2021 that was facilitated and proclaimed by the NGO Pratham on Wednesday, November 17, more students have joined government schools in Maharashtra in the past three years since 2018, highlighted reports.

With a rise of over 9 per cent, the enrolment in government schools in the hinterland crossed the 70 per cent mark that’s even larger than the earlier COVID-19 days.

Based on reports, experts are of the opinion that since schools moved online, parents preferred to enrol their children in government schools at the entry-level close to their homes, resulting in a rise in the enrolment numbers.

The report elucidated that the rise in students in public schools in the hinterland was temporary and caused by financial issues and migrations. Additionally, the report claimed that the percentage of students, who sought tuitions rose from 2018 to 2021.

Presently, nearly 20 per cent of the enrolled students across all classes undertook paid tuitions, the number was 40 per cent in contrast to the all-India level. In contrast to the all-India numbers, children in tuitions could be lower in the state, but the rise isn’t shocking because many need assistance specifically those preparing for the board examinations.
