Around 7,000 Lord Ganesha idols were immersed across Mumbai till 6:00 pm on Wednesday evening. September 20 was the second day of a 10-day festival dedicated to the elephant-headed god. Many devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesha. After worshiping the idols kept in homes and pandals for one and a half days, people took out a procession of the idols and many devotees danced to the immersion sites.

A BMC official said a total of 6,960 Ganesh idols were immersed till 6:00 pm across Mumbai, including 6,930 households and 30 idols from public mandals. Of these, 2,833 Ganesh idols were immersed in artificial ponds. While 2,819 of those idols were installed by people in their homes, 14 were from mandals. No untoward incident was reported during the immersion.


The BMC has identified 69 natural water bodies, including off-shore stretches, for immersion this year and installed 191 artificial ponds. According to Thane civic officials, 2,887 Lord Ganesha idols were immersed till 8:30 pm on Tuesday.
