Suresh Kakani tests positive for COVID-19

As per reports, he was admitted at Mumbai's Seven Hills Hospital for further treatment and it is being said that his condition is stable now.

Mumbai's Additional Municipal Commissioner, Suresh Kakani, has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). As per reports, he wasn't well on Thursday, August 12, 2021, and hence got himself tested for the infection. Upon testing positive, he was admitted at Mumbai's Seven Hills Hospital for further treatment and it is being said that his condition is stable now.

Kakani has been at the forefront of improving the health-related infrastructure in the city. He has been working hard every since the city experienced the first COVID-19 wave. It is being said that he has been extending his hours since the first wave and has been working relentlessly without a day's break since March 2020. 

Over the last few days, he along with the other officials at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have been taking precautionary steps for the predicted third COVID-19 wave, conducting inspections at railway stations across the city as the Mumbai local trains resume for the general public. However, he tested positive during the same time and the spokesperson has confirmed that he is recovering from the infection.

All the officials who have come in contact wit him have been informed regarding the necessary steps to be taken for testing. The official also stated that Kakani conducted some meetings recently and hence testing the staff members was mandatory. The team from BMC is also working towards contact tracing

Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar was also admitted at a hospital in Mumbai due to health-related issues. Reports stated that she was rushed to Mumbai's Global Hospital, on Sunday, July 18, 2021, after experiencing chest pain, which she felt from the night on Saturday, July 17, 2021. A publication reported her death and she soon took to Twitter to clarify the same stating that she was in good condition.
