On April 13, a doctor from Bombay Hospital has tested positive for Coronavirus or COVID-19. According to reports, the doctor worked in the hospital's sonography department. the doctor had also come in contact with several patients including pregnant women.

After the doctor tested positive, the medical staff at Bombay Hospital demanded that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) should seal the hospital. Demand has also been made to conduct tests for the entire hospital staff and all the people that may have come in contact with the doctor. The medical staff also asked the civic body to seal the area within a kilometre of the hospital.

 In the past few days, there have been several such incidents reported. Earlier in the week, one doctor from Nair Hospital and three doctors from Wockhardt Hospital were tested positive for coronavirus, 

With so many doctors and nurses now testing positive, is becoming a serious concern about the safety of frontline medical staff. Rajesh Tope in his address on Friday and shared that they are in process of acquiring one lakh rapid testing kits and once they are able to get their hands on the same, frontline workers will be the first to be tested using this. 

From the story that has been emerging so far in Mumbai alone, over 100 paramedic staff, doctors and nurses have tested positive. In Mumbai, the hospitals that have been impacted so far include Bhatia Wockhardt, Breach Candy Hospital, Hinduja Hospital in Khar, Spandan Hospital in Mulund East and Jaslok Hospital and Shushrusha Hospital in Dadar. The civic body is mulling to get these hospitals up and running by the coming week. 

In order to strengthen its fight against the pandemic, the BMC has even decided to recruit 114 ward boys

 This decision has been taken to ensure more hands are available for assistance during this COVID-19 crisis. Applicants who wish to apply for the position should send their details by April 17, 2020, via an email to  mcgm.wardboy@mcgm.gov.in. The minimum educational qualification for this position is Standard 10, and the remuneration would be between ₹18000 to ₹57000.
