The Central Health Ministry has reportedly written to the states to put in place restrictions that include night curfews as well as proclaiming containment zones if districts have a 10 per cent positivity rate or ICU surges or occupancy in oxygen-supported to 40 per cent, reports stated.

Based on accounts, the letter of the Health Secretary remarked that the Omicron variant was nearly "three times more transmissible" in contrast to the Delta variant. Therefore, at the local level, "greater foresight, data analysis, dynamic decision making and strict and prompt containment action" was needed.

To date, nearly 200 cases of the Omicron variant have been reported in India. From these 77 have recovered or migrated said the Ministry on Tuesday, December 21. The highest number of cases have been reported in Maharashtra and Delhi at 65 and 54, respectively as of Tuesday.

Additionally, in the Health Secretary's note it was also stated that where a new cluster of COVID-19 cases is found, they should be immediately marked as "Containment Zones".

From here, samples must be sent for genome sequencing, mentioned narratives. Apart from this, they believe that authorities should undertake a certain number of RT-PCR tests in proportion to the aggregate tests daily. Along with this, contact tracing of all those positive should also be done. 

Other than this, bed capacity, ambulances, means for easy shifting of patients, oxygen equipment, stock of drugs, vaccination should also be made available, said the Ministry, according to reports.
