Maharashtra Budget Session: Ajit Pawar appointed as leader of council

Maharashtra Chief Minister is the leader of the legislative assembly. Both the houses of Maharashtra legislature were adjourned on the first day of the budget session amid chaos.

The first day of the budget session ended with a huge uproar on Monday. Maharashtra legislative assembly and council, both the houses were adjourned amid chaos after the opposition demanded a discussion on the issues being faced by the farmers and increasing crime against women. 

While highlighting the farmers’ issue, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a protest on the premises of the Vidhan Bhavan before the commencement of the budget session. The protest was led by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Devendra Fadnavis. 

During the assembly session, Fadnavis spoke about the failure of newly elected Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in providing crop loan waiver to farmers. The BJP leader also criticised the Uddhav Thackeray government over the issue of atrocities against women. 

“The government has failed to keep its promise to farmers. The state is witnessing unprecedented crime against women,” LoP Devendra Fadnavis said. 

However, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Nana Patole adjourned the house after completing the listed agendas. Council Chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar also adjourned the house. Opposition leader in the council, Pravin Darekar slammed the state government over their apathy to farmers. 

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar were appointed as the leader of assembly and council, respectively.


Farm loan waiver

In the first list, nearly nine thousand farmers have been named in the farm loan waiver. The loan amount ranging between ₹10,000 and ₹2.5 lakh will be waived under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Shetkari Karjamukti Yojana. 

The process to provide loan waiver for farmers will be completed in three months. After the first, more list of farm loan waiver will be released. CM Uddhav Thackeray informed that the whole process will be completed by April end.

NCP and Congress on CAA, NRC, NPR

NCP leader Prakash Gajbhiye said that the CAA, NRC and NPR are more dangerous than coronavirus. The people have been protesting across the country while opposing the “discriminatory law” and the proposed NRC and the NPR. 

On the first day of the budget session of Maharashtra legislature, the NCP MLAs at Vidhan Bhavan were seen wearing black clothes with tri-colour in their hands to oppose the CAA, NRC and NPR. 

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui said that his party stands against the CAA and NPR and is strongly against the implementation of the same in Maharashtra.
