Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday held a review meeting with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials to discuss the containment of the coronavirus in Mumbai and the outbreak of monsoon-related diseases. 

While speaking to civic officials via video conferencing, Thackeray said that there are projections of a second wave of the coronavirus outbreak world over and instructed them to be more vigilant. He praised the efforts of the civic body for their work to contain the deadly virus and asked them to continue the same. 

Although the number of coronavirus cases has been increasing, Thackeray said that Mumbai was working hard to contain the spread of COVID-19. He added that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has taken note of containment of coronavirus in Mumbai.

“Predictions are being made worldwide regarding the second wave of coronavirus. However, the second wave will only come when we become oblivious. So, let us be more cautious and try to reduce the number of patients,” the Chief Minister said. 

Thackeray also mentioned that Mumbai’s efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus have been praised by the Washington Post. However, he said that the trouble is not over. 

The Chief Minister further said that the coronavirus is spreading in rural parts of the state also which was not the case earlier. Instructions to set up healthcare facilities in these parts have been given to the administration, Thackeray said while adding that there are several things to be achieved in terms of healthcare facilities until the vaccine arrives. 

During the meeting, Thackeray also asked the officers to focus on nullah cleaning in Mumbai as well during the monsoon season. “The work of cleaning nullahs is carried out every year but the waste recollects again after a few days,” he added. 

Talking about the ramshackle buildings, Thackeray said that there was a need to pay attention to the issue and ensure that rehabilitation of citizens from such buildings is done on time.
