Amid the political chaos over Ram Mandir temple, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Monday said that his party played an important role in paving the way for Ram Mandir construction. He said that Sena laid the road for the Ram temple construction in Ayodhya not for political, but out of faith.

While talking to reporters in Mumbai, Raut said that the relation between Shiv Sena and Ayodhya are intact while mentioning that Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray keeps visiting the Uttar Pradesh town.

Raut’s remarks come after Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone for Ram Mandir. The spokesperson of the trust said that they have suggested August 5 to begin the Ram Mandir construction.

Reacting to this, Raut said that his party will see if political social distancing is practised while inviting people. He added that the Shiv Sena President doesn’t need an invitation to visit Ayodhya.

“Uddhav Thackeray went to Ayodhya before becoming the Chief Minister and he went after that too. Shiv Sainiks made sacrifices for Ram Mandir out of faith and Hindutva and not because of politics,” Raut was quoted as saying in the media reports.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar took a dig at the Prime Minister saying that some people think that Ram temple construction will eradicate coronavirus. He urged the centre to focus on the coronavirus and economic crisis which has gripped the country.

NCP is one of the key constituents in the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra. Reacting to Pawar’s statement, Raut said that his party’s faith in religion and god in intact.
