The Centre's decision to hand over the responsibility of preparing Mumbai's economic development plan to the NITI Aayog on Wednesday drew strong reactions in political circles. Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) party chief Uddhav Thackeray alleged that the BJP government's plot to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra has been exposed.

On the other hand, AAP MP Raghav Chadha criticised the BJP's policy as a threat to the federal structure.

NITI Aayog will be entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a plan for the industrial and economic development of Mumbai. The Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog had made a presentation before the government on Tuesday. On this issue, Uddhav Thackeray targeted the BJP in a press conference on Wednesday.

"BJP's plot to separate Mumbai is not hidden. However, the Center never dared to bring such a proposal when the Mahavikas Aghadi government was in power. That is why the BJP brought down the Mahavikas Aghadi government," Thackeray alleged. "Wait a few days, after we come to power in the state and at the centre, we will cancel whatever rash decisions they have taken," said Thackeray.

"The Center is trying to gain control over Mumbai by handing over the responsibility to the NITI Aayog. But Shiv Sena will oppose it. Thackeray also warned that Mumbai will never be separated from Maharashtra. Thackeray also said that as soon as the 'INDIA' alliance comes to power in the center and the state, it will not be possible to break the loop by killing the autonomy of Mumbai and the state.

We call the government of the country a federal system of government. Barring two or three subjects, every state has equal rights. But the BJP government at the center is killing the autonomy of cities and states. They started it from Delhi. At the time when the Center issued the ordinance, we were afraid. Central government intervention has increased considerably. They want a single umbrella government, but we will not survive unless we break their umbrella," Thackeray warned. If Uddhav Thackeray was the Chief Minister, then Mumbai could not have been separated from Maharashtra, so the Shiv Sena was split in the state a year ago. Now, Modi-Shah's BJP has planned to swallow Mumbai through NITI Aayog," alleged the leader of the Thackeray group, MP Sanjay Raut.

Raut's younger brother MLA Sunil Raut revealed that BJP had offered him INR 100 crore to quit Shiv Sena.
