After Uddhav Thackeray-led cabinet approved the Mumbai 24/7 project, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pravin Darekar took a dig at the state government saying that the decision to open shops, malls and eateries though the night has been taken to fulfil Aditya Thackeray’s wishes.

Despite the crumbling condition of law and order in Mumbai, the ‘nightlife’ project has been approved to fulfil the wishes of Maharashtra Minister Aditya Thackeray,” said Darekar.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Council, Darekar informed that a woman was gang-raped during night time in Kurla.

Rapes, Murder, Loot – instances like these are common in Mumbai. In this situation, the question on the protection of people will be raised,” said Darekar.

The BJP leader further stated that the Mumbai police have fewer employees and they will face pressure. This will affect the law and order situation in the city, Darekar added.

Moreover, RPI leader Ramdas Athawale has also raised objection against the ‘nightlife’ project in Mumbai saying that if malls are allowed to remain open through the night, it will lead to crimes.

Earlier, BJP leader Raj Purohit said that nightlife was not part of Indian culture while claiming that there will be thousands of Nirbhaya cases.
