With the Mumbai locals resuming operations from February 1, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ram Kadam criticizing the move stated that the state government has once again overlooked the people of Barwala.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Security Force (RPF) officials have come up with a joint strategy to manage the crowd at railway stations. The general public can travel from the first train service to 7 am, then 12 pm to 4 pm and from 9 pm onwards whereas during the peak hours, i.e between 7 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm, everyone's admission card, permission letter will be checked at the entrance of the station.

BJP MLA Atul Bhatkhalker, speaking about the same stated, “When the real need for local trains was between 7 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm, the decision of the state government to allow the general public to travel only in the afternoon and night is ridiculous and futile." Bhatkhalkar further warned that if the state government does not put aside its ego and immediately start full-time local for the common man, BJP will start a people's movement.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed to start suburban services for general commuters from February 1. Accordingly, all passengers will be able to travel from the first local in the morning till 7 am and also from 12 noon to 4 pm and from 9 pm to the last local. Besides, shops and establishments in Mumbai and Mumbai metropolitan area will be allowed to continue till 11 pm and restaurants will also be allowed to continue till 1 pm.
