Ahead of the ground-breaking ceremony for Ram Mandir, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sanjay Pandey has written a letter to Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari demanding that all temples in the state should be allowed to open on August 5 from morning to evening.

“Due to the coronavirus outbreak, crores of Ram devotees will not be able to visit Ayodhya for the ground-breaking ceremony. In this situation, every devotee would want to visit a temple near their locality. The temples in Maharashtra should be allowed to open their doors on August 5 from morning to evening so that all devotees can be mentally present for the ceremony,” Pandey wrote.

The ground-breaking ceremony for Ram Mandir is scheduled to be held on August 5 in Ayodhya and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited by the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust to lay the foundation stone for Ram temple construction.

Many prominent Hindutva leaders have been invited for the ground-breaking ceremony which is expected to be held with a limited number of invitees in Ayodhya.

Pandey, president of Maharashtra BJP North Indian front or 'Uttar Bharatiya Morcha', said that ‘Mahaarti’ was being organised in temples across the country to make this movement memorable for Ram devotees.

“Since we can’t go to Ayodhya, we request you (Governor) to allow temples to open on August 5 so that Ram devotees can participate in the Mahaarti wherever they live while taking precautionary measures,” the letter said.

Maharashtra played an important role in the Ram Mandir movement and millions of people from the state participated in the struggle, Pandey said while adding that the ground-breaking ceremony for Ram mandir was a moment of great joy for them.

“In view of the faith and sentiments of crores of Hindus, all temples in Maharashtra should be allowed to open from morning to evening on August 5,” the letter read.
