Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Friday said that the time for “bhoomi pujan” of Ram Mandir or Ram temple wasn’t right considering the COVID-19 situation. The ground-breaking ceremony for Ram temple is scheduled to be held on August 5.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi among other Hindutva leaders to lay the foundation stone for Ram Mandir. The ceremony is expected to be held with a limited number of invitees in Ayodhya.

Reacting to this, the MNS chief said that there should be “bhoomi pujan” for Ram temple but the timing is not right. The ceremony should be organised with grand celebrations after things normalise, he added.

“The “bhoomi pujan” for Ram temple should be organised. So many karsevkas have sacrificed their lives for it. But the timing was not correct considering the current (COVID-19) situation,” Raj Thackeray said.

Thackeray also dismissed his cousin’s - Uddhav Thackeray - idea of an e-bhoomipujan saying that the ground-breaking ceremony should be organised with grand celebrations after the coronavirus situation normalises, as it was a joyous event for people.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray suggested that an e-bhoomipujan can be done via video conferencing for the foundation stone ceremony of Ram Mandir.

“This is a moment of joy for lakhs of Ram bhakts. This is not an ordinary temple and many will be interested to attend the ceremony at Ayodhya. What will you do about them? An e-bhoomipujan can be done via video conference,” he said.
