After the CSMT bridge collapse on Thursday evening which killed six people and left 36 injured, the Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan lashed out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena saying that Mumbai is becoming a city of accidents because of the corrupt government and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Due to the corrupt BJP-Shiv Sena, living in Mumbai has become difficult while dying is easy. With collapsing bridges and fire incidents, Mumbaikars are constantly dying. If BJP and Shiv Sena posses a bit of shame, Mumbai Mayor along with the BMC Commissioner should be removed and the culprits should be prosecuted,” Chavan asserted.

While talking to the media, the Maharashtra Congress President claimed that BMC has become a place for corruption. The Himalaya bridge, which collapsed outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) near Times of India (TOI), was declared safe by the BMC in the structural audit.

Questioning the audit of the bridge, Chavan said that BMC and the government initiate their blame-game in such incidents and no one takes responsibility. Moreover, no action has been taken against anyone till date after the Elphinstone stampede and Kamla Mills fire incident while people die every day.
