Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s attempt to distance his party is aimed at holding only Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray responsible for the failure in handling the COVID-19 crisis in the state.

While talking to reporters, Fadnavis expressed surprise over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks which stated that the Congress was not a key decision-maker in Maharashtra but only supported the government there.

Reacting to this, Fadnavis said that the Congress was trying to run away from the shared responsibility for the government’s failure. Rahul Gandhi wanted to blame only Shiv Sena and Uddhav Thackeray for the same, he added.

“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is making Shiv Sena a scapegoat by making such remarks. In my opinion, the blame-game in the MVA government has already started,” Fadnavis said.

Earlier, Gandhi said that his party was not a key decision-maker in Maharashtra but was only supporting the government there. His remarks come amid the allegations of “ineffective handling” of COVID-19 crisis against the Uddhav Thackeray government.

However, NCP MP Supriya Sule said that Rahul Gandhi was “absolutely right” as the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is a coalition government and everyone takes a decision together while implying that the three parties including Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena in the MVA government had equal say.

Meanwhile, NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday alleged that Devendra Fadnavis was getting impatient and was desperate. Speaking on the coalition crisis rumours, Pawar stated that the state government was strong, stable and safe.

Reacting to this, Fadnavis said that the BJP was not in a hurry to form government in Maharashtra and was not planning on toppling the current government. However, the BJP leader said that his party was pressuring the Uddhav Thackeray government regarding its handling of COVID-19 crisis.
