Govandi- A three day old baby died at Shivaji Nagar’s Jeevanjyot hospital and Nursing home (Kamat hospital) on 11 November 2016 for want of valid currency. State Health Minister Dr Deepak Sawant has formed a three member committee to investigate the infant’s death in the Govandi hospital. It is being said that the baby succumbed as the parents did not have enough money to pay for the treatment. The baby allegedly breathed its last when the helpless parents were on their way to admit their baby at Rajawadi hospital. When this news reached their locality, people went to the Shivaji Nagar police station and demanded action against the hospital authorities. “We deposited 100 rupee notes of Rs. 3500 and 500 rupee notes of Rs. 2500 and I also asked for an hour's time to pay the rest. But they were adamant about the exchange of notes and asked us to take our baby to some other hospital,” said Rajesh Sharma, the baby's father. Meanwhile, Shivaji Nagar senior police inspector Dole said that he has asked the family to file a police complaint.
