After Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray informed that no proposal regarding Muslim quota has come before the state government, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis took a dig at the Chief Minister saying that he shouldn’t give “vague” replies.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative assembly, Devendra Fadnavis taunted CM Uddhav Thackeray and said that the Chief Minister should not give “vague” replies on the issue of providing 5 per cent reservation to Muslims in the education sector but declare the same with “courage”.

Speaking on the issue of Muslim quota while addressing a press conference, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that no proposal regarding 5 per cent quota to Muslim in the education sector has come before the state government.

“No such proposal regarding Muslim reservation has come before the Maharashtra government. We will check its authenticity after it comes to us. We have not taken any decision on it yet but some people are already banging their heads on it,” CM Thackeray said.

Thackeray’s remarks came after Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik informed the legislative council that legislation to provide 5 per cent quota to Muslims in educational institutions will be passed in the ongoing budget session.

However, Thackeray’s remarks contradict the claims made by the NCP minister. Maharashtra NCP president Jayant Patil also said that all three parties in the MVA government will sit together before taking a decision on the same.

Reacting to this, Devendra Fadnavis said that instead of making statements at a presser, the Chief Minister should address the legislature regarding the Muslim quota issue in the ongoing budget session.

Fadnavis further stated that the constitution has no provision to provide reservation on the basis of religion in government jobs or education.
