The state government of Maharashtra is currently deciding on whether the e-pass for travel in Maharashtra should be removed. While the officials are yet to make a decision, BJP leader and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that there was no point in maintaining this condition for private vehicles.

A few days back, officials decided to get this of this rule for State Transport buses.

Addressing the media with regards to the issue of e-pass, Fadnavis said that there is a lot of confusion and inconsistency in the policies drawn by the current government. Furthermore, he questioned that the decision was taken by the central government and is applicable in other states, but not in Maharashtra

Currently, commuters using public transport can travel without an e-pass, however, the rule applies for private vehicles.

Citizens have taken to social media to mock the decision using meme and satire, and the government needs to take a decision regarding the same, at the earliest, added Fadnavis.

Addressing this, state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has said that the decision on whether to implement the Centre's notification in Maharashtra will be taken after discussions with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has permitted some relaxation from the lockdown, and several services have resumed. BEST buses have seen an increase in the number of passengers, however, many opposition parties and citizens have requested the government to permit local trains from September. Currently, Mumbai local trains services are only functional for workers in essential services, but as per recent reports, local trains may resume for the public, post-Ganpati Visarjan on September 1.
