Election Commission issues notice to Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant

Election Commission has sent a notice to Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant upon complaining against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for holding meetings at Varsha Bungalow stating that it is violating code of conduct.
Though the Election Commission took Sachin Sawant's complaint seriously, the former issued notice to Sawant as well.

Sawant has been directed to be present at the Election Commission office at 3:00 pm on April 22. The code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections has come into force across the country including Maharashtra. Meanwhile, political meetings are being held continuously at the official residence of Chief Minister Varsha. Sachin Sawant had said that these meetings should be stopped immediately, this is a clear violation of the code of conduct. He demanded that the Election Commission should look into this.


Taking cognizance of Sawant's complaint, Chief Election Commission S Chokkalingam said that he will issue show cause notices to those officials. However, the Election Commission itself has issued a notice to Sachin Sawant.
