Former Mumbai police officer Sachin Vaze, accused in a Rs 100 crore extortion case, has made serious allegations against Anil Deshmukh of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Vaze claimed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has substantial evidence proving that Deshmukh collected money through his personal assistant.
Allegations Extend to NCP President Jayant Patil
Vaze has not only implicated Deshmukh but also extended his allegations to NCP (SP) state president Jayant Patil. In a letter addressed to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Vaze stated that he had named Patil and provided all necessary evidence. Vaze affirmed his willingness to undergo a narcoanalysis test to support his claims.
Thorough Investigation
Reacting to these serious accusations, BJP leader and MLC Prasad Lad has called for the re-arrest of Anil Deshmukh if the allegations are validated. Lad emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the matter. Similarly, Minister Girish Mahajan has called for an inquiry into all extortion activities that allegedly took place during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government's tenure.
Political Reactions
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has responded to the situation by accusing the BJP of manipulating Vaze for political gain. Raut suggested that the BJP's actions are driven by fear of an electoral defeat, discrediting Vaze by highlighting his involvement in the Mansukh Hiran murder case and the 2021 Antilia bomb scare outside Mukesh Ambani’s residence. Meanwhile, Anil Deshmukh has previously accused Fadnavis of pressuring him to sign affidavits against Uddhav Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray, Ajit Pawar, and Anil Parab, claiming that an intermediary named Samit Kadam approached him multiple times with offers related to these affidavits.
