The conflict between the Center and the MVA-led Thackeray government has once again come to the fore after the Bombay High Court stayed the construction of metro car shed at Kanjurmarg.

According to reports, NCP chief Sharad Pawar will now intervene to resolve the Metro dispute. He is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk regarding this matter, said Nawab Malik, the state's minority minister.

Pawar-led NCP is a key constituent of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi, along with Shiv Sena and Congress.

“Sharad Pawar will try to solve the problem of car shed at Kanjurmarg. If needed, Pawar is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a day or two,” Malik said.

Pawar’s move comes at a time when the centre and the Shiv Sena-led state government are locked in a tussle over the ownership of the land earmarked by the state for constructing the carshed depot, which was earlier planned at Aarey Colony, a green belt in suburban Goregaon.

Pawar, during his conversation with Thackeray and Fadnavis, had made a strong case for keeping politics aside in development work. The NCP chief is believed to have convinced both Thackeray and Fadnavis that the Kanjurmarg land ownership issue can be resolved with talks between the central and state government. He has reportedly pointed out that out of court settlement can be worked out provided both governments talk to each other.

However, in his address to the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said he is open for a resolution of the Kanjurmarg Metro car shed land row in Mumbai through dialogue with the Centre and asserted it is not an 'ego issue' for him.

On December 16, the Mumbai High Court had stayed the Mumbai Sub-District Collector's order to transfer 102 acres of land at Kanjurmarg to MMRDA for the Mumbai Metro-3 car shed. Any work on that land is prohibited immediately. This is considered to be a big blow to the state government which has started work on Kanjur Marg by shifting the Metro car shed from Aarey.
