Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya has attacked the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over a case. On April 5, four police officers allegedly took Engineer Anant Karmuse to the house of Maharashtra Housing Minster Jitendra Awhad and beat him up.

Karmuse, a 40-year-old year man, had filed a police complaint earlier alleging that he was beaten by the men of Awhad at his bungalow with a bamboo stick and belt. The man alleged that Awhad was also present at that time.

Referring to the case, Somaiya informed that three policemen have been arrested in Thane recently while stating that Awhad’s name is also mentioned in the case. “When will action be taken against Jitendra Awhad, who is a minister in the Thackeray government?” Somaiya asked.

Karmuse had posted a morphed photo with Jitendra Awhad’s face on April 5 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked people to light candles and ‘diyas’ to fight the “darkness of the coronavirus”.

Somaiya said that it has been six months since the incident happened and a total of nine people have arrested in the case. The BJP leader raised questions asking that action should be taken against Awhad.

“Anant Karmuse Engineer Kidnapping & Assault by Thackeray Sarkar Minister Jitendra Awhad, 6 months completed. today 3 Constable arrested, in all 9 arrested till now. We Want action against Minister on whose instructions this incident happened (sic),” Somaiya tweeted.

Earlier, Somaiya had gone to meet Karmuse and was detained by the police at his own residence. Meanwhile, Awhad has clarified that he doesn’t know the man and only came to know about him through social media.
