Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has said that Maharastra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray should play an active role in the national politics. He said that the Shiv Sena chief is mentally prepared to lead the opposition or non-BJP states at the national level.

Raut’s remarks come after Thackeray spoke of uniting against the Modi government in the centre. Recently, in a meeting organised by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, the Maharashtra Chief Minister said that the centre was undermining the states and their rights and there was a need to unite against it.

“In the current situation, the country seems to be in the hands of only one person. What is the use of state governments? The people who elect the Prime Minister and the state government are the same. We are also representatives of people, like them. No one can suppress the voice of the people,” Thackeray said.

The meeting was held to discuss GST, JEE-NEET exam issue and economic situation of the country and states and was attended by opposition Chief Ministers of six states and Puducherry including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

As Thackeray’s remarks sparked speculations of him playing an active role in the national politics, Raut said that it was time for the Shiv Sena chief to lead the non-BJP states against the centre.

“Uddhav Thackeray has the mindset to lead at the national level. He never speaks in a hesitant manner. Uddhav Thackeray has appealed the non-BJP states to fight against the centre. I think he should lead at the national level,” Raut asserted.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis reiterated that the Shiv Sena-led three-party alliance in Maharashtra will collapse as it was full of contradictions and took a dig at the Congress leadership crisis saying that such an old party can’t even choose its president.
