Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday warned that the state government will impose another round of lockdown if people don’t follow COVID-19 protocol.

While addressing the citizens via Facebook Live, Thackeray said that people have been seen wearing masks improperly and even without it in public places. One needs to protect their nose and mouth from the coronavirus with the help of face masks, he added.

“People have been seen venturing out without their masks and many wear it improperly. It is not a pair of goggles that you wear it for style. You need to protect your nose and mouth from the virus,” Thackeray said.

The “whole-hearted participation” of people is required to defeat coronavirus pandemic and people will have to decide between wearing masks or lockdown, the Chief Minister asserted.

“I don’t want to impose lockdown or punish those violating COVID-19 protocols. The battle against coronavirus pandemic will be won with the help of whole-hearted participation of people. People have a choice of wearing masks and practising social distancing or facing the lockdown again,” Thackeray said.

Meanwhile, Thackeray said that the government was planning to increase the number of local trains so that more people can travel. However, the Chief Minister hinted that the general passengers may have to wait to travel in the local trains in Mumbai.

Thackeray clarified that Mumbai local will not start at its full capacity anytime soon. Earlier, the Maharashtra government had told the Bombay High Court that the local trains may open for all if people follow COVID-19 protocol.

Around 449 coronavirus testing labs have been set up in Maharashtra. Of 15,18,734 patients, 12,55,779 patients have recovered, and around 80 per cent of patients currently have mild to moderate symptoms.
