Citizens across Maharashtra are excited to celebrate Diwali, however, amidst the coronavirus crisis, the government is taking measures to ensure the spread of COVID-19 infection is avoided. While sharing the wishes with the people, CM Uddhav Thackeray, on Wednesday, November 11, asked the state to ensure safety and stay aware of the responsibility to take care of one's health.

Adding more, he said that our priority should be to keep ourselves and others safe till the coronavirus vaccine is launched and reaches every person. Over the last 7 to 8 months, the state has controlled the spread of COVID-19 infections and has celebrated the festivals carefully, by following the rules. He thanked the people for their patience as the contribution and support have helped the officials curb coronavirus after many months.

However, observing the second wave in some European countries and the harm it is causing to its people and the nation, CM Thackeray pointed out that the number of patients is increasing rapidly and there is a shortage of hospital equipment, medical staff and doctors. Hence, if we remain conscious during Diwali, and celebrate in a simple manner, the number of patients would not increase exponentially in the future.

On the one hand, the government wants everybody to enjoy Diwali, however, thousands of doctors, nurses, medical staff, police are fighting coronavirus are going to serve the people and forget the celebrations. Sharing this message, he said that one needs to understand to keep your life safe and not forget that Diwali for many people is going to be in hospitals and for the staff on duty. These people could be anybody from a family and considering their plight we should take steps to not add more stress to their daily lives. This can be achieved by celebrating the festival with family, at homes, without crackers but with safety.

On the other hand, the government has agreed to reopen schools and colleges after Diwali. SOPs for the same was issued recently by School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad and the authorities will be allowed to reopen only if they have followed the same. Moreover, students and staff will have to wear the mask, wash hands, maintain the distance, follow the norms, and ensure safety at all times.

Furthermore, people have been asked to remain healthy as it is winter and the season also causes respiratory issues. Elders have been asked to stay cautious and stay at home. CM added that since it is a festival of lights, one should make arrangements for lights, rangolis, decorations, and pursue interests like reading, listening to music and follow other hobbies. He concluded by saying that may the festival bring peace and prosperity for everyone.
