Cyclone Nisarga: Maharashtra Government to release additional compensation for those affected

The Chief Minister said that the damage is being recorded in parts of the state which have been damaged due to the cyclone including the Konkan region and the administration is providing compensation to all those affected.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday held a review meeting via video conferencing on the damage caused by cyclone Nisarga. The CM announced that more compensation will be provided to those affected due to the cyclone in the Konkan region. 

The Chief Minister said that the damage is being recorded in parts of the state which have been damaged due to the cyclone including the Konkan region and the administration is providing compensation to all those affected.

“The state government will provide more financial assistance to the victims than what was announced last week,” Thackeray said while adding that the administration was working on war footing provide immediate aide to the people. 

The Chief Minister further said that additional funds will be handed out to give more compensation to those affected due to the cyclone in parts of Maharashtra. The administration along with the local representatives should make efforts to reach the last person who requires help, he added. 

Thackeray noted that the orchards of farmers in Konkan region have been adversely affected due to Cyclone Nisarga and the government will formulate a policy for their revival.

Earlier, during his two-day visit to Konkan region, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar had also asked the Chief Minister to consider the compensation for the loss of orchards in the region due to the cyclone. 

Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar, Uday Samant and Raigad Guardian Minister Aditi Tatakre also joined the meeting via video conferencing. 

The Deputy CM said that the administration and elected representatives should work together to ensure that the affected people receive compensation.
