Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari appealed to the people to remain vigilant in view of COVID-19 and the rising number of cases of coronavirus.

Moreover, at the hands of the Governor, the superintendent of Sion Hospital, Dr Mohan Achyut Joshi, Dean of KEM Dr Hemant Deshmukh, Nursing Hospital Harshad Shah, Dr Mukesh Agarwal, Dr Vibha Agarwal, social worker Iqbal Ismail Mamdani, ambulance driver Anil Adivasi, Deputy Collector Mallikarjun Mane, senior police inspector of Wadala police station Prashant Kamble and other COVID-19 warriors were felicitated at Raj Bhavan.

The authorities further hinted at the possibility of “imposition of local lockdown measures” to control the occurrence of rising cases and insisted on starting the drive for the elderly in the ward at the earliest. Meanwhile, in a press conference in Aurangabad, the state's Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar pointed out that people have started avoiding wear face masks while in public places which could lead to serious consequences.

On the other hand, earlier on January 16, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive in the state and inaugurated the vaccination centre at BKC. In the state, this drive is being conducted on five days every week- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

However, several medical practitioners, or people from the fraternity, reportedly told several media outlets that they would like to delay receiving the second dose of the vaccine in view of the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation that the booster dose was most efficacious when taken between 8-12 weeks. On the other hand, civic authorities have stated that they have not received any communication from the Centre or state to extend the interval between the two doses which currently stands at four weeks.
