Maharashtra Governor calls for effective implementation of women and child welfare schemes

During a meeting, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari asked the officials from Department of Women and Child Welfare to visit field offices for effective monitoring of such schemes.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Tuesday asked the Maharashtra government to monitor the implementation of the state and central schemes aimed at proving the nutrition of women and children, reducing malnutrition and ensuring the safety of women and children. 

Governor Koshyari was talking to the officers of the state government at Raj Bhavan and asked them to visit field offices for effective monitoring of such schemes. Some of the schemes and programmes include the Integrated Child Development Service (IDCS), Indira Gandhi MatritvaShayogYojna (IGSMY).

The officials from the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Government of Maharashtra were giving a presentation before the Governor on October 6 and detailed various schemes of the government for the empowerment of women and children.

Secretary of Women and Child Welfare Department Idzes Kundan, Secretary Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Seema Vyas, Chairman of ICDS Project Indra Malo and Commissioner, Women and Child Development Hrushikesh Yashod were present during the meeting. 

On Monday, Governor Koshyari said that he will use his offices to resolve bilateral problems and promote trade between the two countries - Afghanistan and India - by seeking the intervention of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

He was meeting the newly appointed first woman consul general of Afghanistan Zakia Wardak at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Wardak told the Maharashtra Governor that the trade between India and Afghanistan can grow significantly with the opening of the Charbar port.
