In the backdrop of the Supreme Court (SC) staying local body polls on those seats reserved for the Other Backward Class (OBC), the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, has undertaken the decision to file an affidavit in the apex court, highlighted reports.

Through means of this report, it looks to request the judiciary to either permit polling on all seats on December 21 or completely postpone the elections.

On Monday, December 6, the SC stayed polls on those seats wherein the reservation of up to 27 per cent for the OBCs. However, it stated that the election process for the other seats will progress.

On Wednesday, December 8, according to accounts, the issue was discussed in the cabinet. Wherein a decision was undertaken to file an affidavit before the SC urging that polls not be conducted in a piecemeal form.

Considering the order by the SC, the Maharashtra State Election Commission on Tuesday, December 7, had deferred the local body polls for the OBC category. Elections on 413 seats that are reserved for the OBC were deferred.

For the remaining, 1710 seats, polls are anticipated to be conducted according to the schedule on December 21. Based on accounts, MVA ministers are hopeful that the SC will accord them relief.
