Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis lashed out at Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over its opposition to the farm laws and not allowing to reopen temples in Maharashtra.

Fadnavis, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in state legislative assembly, expressed disappointment over the ideological shift of Shiv Sena. He attacked the MVA government for not allowing the temples to reopen.

“Not temples, but liquor has been allowed. What is this? At least have respect for Hindu Hridya Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray. Change, but not so much. Allow temples to open in Maharashtra,” Fadnavis said while addressing a meeting of Maharashtra BJP Executive at Vasant Smruti in Dadar.

Speaking over the MVA’s opposition to farm laws, Fadnavis claimed that the Maharashtra government was ready to implement the reforms in the farm sector. He said that the implementation has been put on hold due to pressure from Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress government in Maharashtra had allowed contract farming earlier, Fadnavis said while adding that they are opposing the reform in the farm sector due to pressure from Sonia Gandhi.

He further claimed that the farm laws cleared by the central government contain recommendation made by a task force during the Congress-led UPA rule in 2006. Sharad Pawar was the Union Agriculture Minister during that time.

The BJP leader also criticised the MVA government over its handling of COVID-19 situation and pointed out there was corruption. Reacting to MVA leaders’ allegations that BJP defamed Maharashtra in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, Fadnavis said that the bad name to the state has come due to their own actions.

He said that the government has failed to give compensation to those affected due to the Nisarga cyclone in Konkan region. Fadnavis also accused the MVA government of neglecting the flood-hit farmers in Vidarbha and other parts of Maharashtra.
