Shiv Sena has recently announced that it will contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections on 50 out of the 234 seats. The party has appointed 20 star campaigners which including Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and state Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray.

Thackeray and his son are not likely to campaign physically but virtually amid the coronavirus pandemic. Senior Shiv Sena leaders Sanjay Raut, Rahul Shewale, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Subhash Desai, Chandrakant Khaire will campaign for their candidates in Bihar.

This comes after a report by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Forensic Medical Board ruled out the murder angle in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Shiv Sena intends to target the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Bihar elections.

Shiv Sena had earlier said that it will field a candidate against former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey who recently joined Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) after taking early retirement from his post.

However, Pandey name was missing from the list of candidates announced by JD(U). The ex-DGP said that he won’t be contesting the assembly polls. He wanted a ticket from Buxar assembly constituency but the same fell into BJP’s quota.

Although JD(U) has objected to Shiv Sena’s election symbol of ‘bow and arrow', the Uddhav Thackeray-led party is eager to contest the polls in Bihar without the symbol as well.

Sena’s campaign will focus on how the ruling party mislead the people of Bihar in connection with the SSR death case and their election issue will be unemployment and education.

During the 2015 Bihar assembly elections, Shiv Sena had contested 8 seats and managed to get over 2 lakh votes. In seven assembly constituencies - Hayaghat, Bochaha, Dinara, Jamalpur, Kumhrar, Patna Sahib and Morwa, Shiv Sena candidates got third highest votes.
