Hours after Supreme Court announced its verdict to conduct a floor test in Maharashtra assembly, Ajit Pawar on Tuesday resigned from his post as Deputy Chief Minister.
This comes after the apex court pronounced judgement on Maharashtra government formation ruling to conduct the floor test on November 27 through open ballot by appointing protem speaker.
‘Rebel’ Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister on Saturday and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took oath as Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The oath was administered by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan.
According to sources, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis may also resign from his post. CM Fadnavis has called a press conference at 3:30 PM today. The speculations are being generated that he may resign from his post as well.
Reacting to the reports of Ajit Pawar’s resignation, NCP leader Jayant Patil said that he has come to know about the resignation from the media only.
I don’t know about it. I would like to make a comment on it only after getting to know everything about it,” said Jayant Patil who replaced Ajit Pawar as NCP legislature party leader.

NCP Ajit Pawar joined hands with the BJP submitted support going against his party’s decision. The NCP patriarch – Sharad Pawar had said that the decision to tie up with the BJP to form the government is Ajit Pawar’s personal one.
