Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Eknath Khadse launched an attack on party’s state unit President Chandrakant Patil for not nominating him for the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections which are scheduled to be held on May 21.

On several occasions, Khadse has expressed his disappointment with the BJP’s top leadership of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrakant Patil in the state. The sulking leader alleged that denying him a ticket for the MLC polls was a conspiracy by certain leaders.

“This is a conspiracy against people like me who had served the party for 40 years and other by some 4-5 state leaders who are misleading central leadership,” Eknath Khadse said.

Attacking Chandrakant Patil for not keeping his word, Khadse said that BJP leader Medha Kulkarni was promised a seat in the MLC polls as she was denied a ticket in the assembly polls earlier to make way for Patil to contest from Kothrud constituency in Pune.

Recently, the BJP announced a list of four candidates for the legislative council polls in Maharashtra on nine vacancies. The BJP had named Pravin Darke, Gopichand Padalkar, Ajit Gopchade and Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil.

However, in a last-minute change, the saffron party withdrew Gopchade’s candidature in favour of Ramesh Karad who belongs to the late Gopinath Munde camp. Karad is considered a close confidant of late Gopinath Munde and his daughter Pankaja Munde.

Khadse had publicly expressed that he wants to contest the legislative council polls but the party chose not to field him. Along with Khadse, other senior BJP leaders including Pankaja Munde, Vinod Tawde and Chandrashekar Bawankule were also denied nominations for the MLC polls.

The differences between Khadse and Fadnavis started after the former was made to resign as the Revenue Minister over corruption allegations. Khadse had also intended to contest the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly polls from his home ground Muktainagar in Jalgaon district.

However, the BJP fielded his daughter Rohini Khadse instead. Rohini Khadse was defeated for which Eknath Khadse blamed a section of BJP leaders for the same.

Reacting to being sidelined by his own party, Khadse earlier said that he would take a decision on his future political course after the COVID-19 crisis while hinting towards his resignation from the BJP.
