Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has demanded the state government to suspend domestic air travel. Raj Thackeray spoke to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday amid the coronavirus outbreak across the state. 

The MNS chief praised the Maharashtra government along with the central government for their efforts to tackle the spread of the coronavirus which has infected 415 people in India. Raj Thackeray also praised the frontline staff assisting during the coronavirus crisis. 

The Maharashtra government has imposed section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in all urban parts of the state in order to tackle the coronavirus outbreak in Maharashtra. The positive cases of COVID-19 in Maharashtra have increased to 89 while 38 infected cases are in Mumbai. 

“I spoke to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray about the current lockdown. I asked him to stop domestic flights as well. Uddhav Thackeray said that the same was under consideration,” said Raj Thackeray.

The MNS chief further informed that he was surprised to see people coming out on streets in large numbers despite clear instruction to not crowd public places. 

Praising the medical workers and police, Raj Thackeray said that they were doing a commendable job during the time of such crisis by putting in long hours at work. 

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Ministry ordered that all domestic commercial flights will be stopped indefinitely from midnight tomorrow -  from 23:59 on March 24.  

Despite section 144 of CrPC imposed by the Maharashtra government on Sunday, the citizens on Monday ventured out on streets with their vehicles causing a traffic jam in parts of Mumbai. There was a huge jam at Thane-Mulund toll Naka, Sion and other places. Several Twitter handles also shared the images and videos of the same bringing this to the notice of Maharashtra Chief Minister. 

Earlier, Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope asserted that the state has not entered the community spread phase and informed that 14 new cases were tested positive for the coronavirus. With this, the number of positive coronavirus cases in Maharashtra has risen to 89.
