Balasaheb Thackeray is regarded to be one of the most prominent figures in the history of Maharashtra politics. From being a cartoonist to being a mass influencer, Bal Thackeray is revered by young and old alike in the state. As a tribute to the political figure, the Maharashtra government had declared the construction of a memorial of Bal Thackeray.
However, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena have come face to face for the construction after Shiv Sena accused that the memorial was being constructed on the government land where the Mayor’s residence is situated despite Supreme Court’s orders to not do so.

In response, MNS has displayed displeasure and said that since the memorial has not been able to get any other government land, they are constructing the memorial at the Mayor Residence. The memorial is said to be constructed at the Mayor's Residence office whereas the mayor will be shifted to the new residence at Rani Baug. Meanwhile, BMC has also sent a proposal to create the new Mayor Residence near Shivaji Park Gymkhana (SPG).
MNS chief Raj Thackeray also opposed the construction of the memorial at the Mayor's Residence office and accordingly, met BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta where he opposed the idea to build the memorial inside the house.
Thackeray also said that the mayor would not get even an inch of space at Shivaji Park and also stated that MNS opposes the construction of memorial inside the house.
