Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Friday penned down a letter addressed to his party workers and leaders sating that he will not be celebrating his birthday on June 14 this year in view of the coronavirus outbreak. 

In his letter, Thackeray praised his party workers or “Maharashtra Sainiks” for putting their lives at risk and spending from their pocket to provide assistance to those affected due to the current situation. 

The MNS supremo further announced that he will not be able to meet up like before on his birthday with the current situation being turbulent. “So many people have lost their lives and many more are in anguish and suffering as there is no respite from the coronavirus pandemic,” he said. 

While instructing all the party office bearers to not come and wish him personally, Thackeray said that the entire atmosphere was gloomy and sombre and celebrating his birthday during such times doesn’t feel right. 

“I expect you’ll stay where you are and continue your efforts in helping others. This would be my best birthday wish and gift from you all,” the letter read while adding that when the normalcy is restored he will personally meet all the party workers. 

Meanwhile, MNS leader Avinash Jadhav has warned Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) of agitation over its decision to take over the educational institutions including schools and colleges. Jadhav said that this would cause mental agony to students and it should be avoided. 

As of June 11, the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has reached 97,648 nearing the one lakh-mark. The death toll in Maharashtra has touched 3,590. In Mumbai alone, the number of COVID-19 cases have risen to 54,085 and has reported 1,954 deaths.
