Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray on Friday, February 12, met the teachers who have been protesting at Azad Maidan in Mumbai for the last few days to press their various demands.

Amit Thackeray assured them by saying that MNS will try its best to solve their problems and the party firmly stands with the teachers.

While talking to reporters after meeting the teachers, Amit Thackeray said, “I came here to find out the reason behind their protest and what their demands are. About 2,000 to 3,000 teachers are protesting at Azad Maidan. Everyone has been facing various issues, but the query of grants remains to be a common concern. Teachers have also been in trouble due to the coronavirus crisis. We are here because the voice of teachers should reach the government.”

Amit Thackeray also met the Education Minister along with the party delegation. “After the positive response from Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad, it is hopeful that the teachers’ issues will be resolved soon,” said Amit Thackeray.

Meanwhile, the teachers' agitation has been going on at Azad Maidan for the last two weeks. The government had assured the teachers that the subsidy would be increased by 20 per cent every year. But the grants have not been issued to them for the last two years. As the government is not fulfilling its promise, they are compelled to stage a protest.
