In the Lok Sabha election, the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance in Maharashtra has declared Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray as their star campaigner.
MNS had earlier announced that the party won’t be contesting LS polls but Thackeray will continue his campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah.
However, MNS has clarified that the party won’t campaign for senior Congress leader, and candidate from Mumbai North West LS constituency, Sanjay Nirupam. MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar described Nirupam as anti-Maharashtra who holds grudges against Marathi community.
In the past, there have been several instances where MNS leaders and Nirupam have slammed each other, notably over the hawker's issue.

The agitated MNS workers have also vandalised Nirupam’s office over his “objectionable remarks” on Raj Thackeray earlier. With this problematic history between the two political players, MNS has taken a stand to not campaign for the North Indian leader.
