Ulhasnagar's New English High School and Junior College has faced nearly two months of protests from parents following a substantial increase in fees. Now, school's administration has responded to this fee surge.

They have said that the fees was increased for infrastructure upgrades only after the consent of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), which includes parents. The school administration also claims that the increased fee is not mandatory.

This dispute escalated as the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) staged a demonstration at the school premises. It lead to the detainment of nine individuals involved in vandalizing the building. On thursday, the local court granted them bail for INR 15,000.

While the school administration insists that the 70% of parents have already paid the increased fee. He also emphasized the quality of amenities provided. But parents, led by advocate Sachin Tambekar, refute the school's claims.

According to reports, it was never mentioned that the fee was optional. Concerns were also raised about the safety of the students during the MNS protest, especially considering that primary school pupils were in the midst of their exams.

Prakash Gurnani, the trustee of the school, defended the fee hike. He stated that the PTA's approval and the need for improvements prompted the decision. Allegations have been raised about beatings for non-payment of the increased tuition. Gurnani rejected these claims.

The Education officer for the Zilla Parishad, Lalita Dahitulye, confirmed that an inquiry into the school's records connected to government funding is underway. It should also be noted that the school administration has yet to present any relevant documents.
