The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Thursday protested in Navi Mumbai against the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over its decision to increase toll fees.

Recently, the Maharashtra government announced an increase in toll charges at all entry points of Mumbai and the decision has come into effect from October 1. The MNS workers protested at Airoli toll booth and shouted slogans against the state government over new hiked rates between ₹5 and ₹25.

Currently, people are suffering from a financial crisis due to the lockdown and now they will have to bear the burnt of toll hike. The toll charges at entry points of Mumbai have been increased and the monthly pass rate will also be increased.

With the closure of Mumbai local train services for commoners, the toll hike will affect millions commuting to and from Mumbai.

Opposing the decision, MNS workers gathered at Airoli toll booth. However, this led to long queues at the toll 'naka'. The Raj Thackeray-led party has been opposing the lockdown rules imposed by the Maharashtra government.

Earlier, a group of MNS leaders including Sandeep Deshpande travelled on local train defying the lockdown rules. They travelled on the local train violating the rules to register their protest against the Maharashtra government. Currently, only essential workers are allowed to travel via local train while the general public is not due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The crime branch of the Mumbai railway police arrested the four MNS leaders from Karjat after which they were sent to 14 days custody by Karjat Railway Court. Later, they were released on bail.
