The Maharashtra government has decided to provide Y+ security cover to six Members of Parliament who recently broke away from the Thackeray-led faction of Shiv Sena, following an intelligence assessment indicating potential threats to their safety.
According to sources, certain leaders from the Thackeray camp allegedly issued provocative statements against the rebel MPs, leading to concerns over their security. The State Intelligence Department reportedly submitted a report to the Home Department warning of possible risks to the MPs' lives.
Based on the assessment, the Home Department has ordered enhanced security arrangements for the six parliamentarians. Additional police personnel have been deployed outside their residences and offices.
The MPs who have been granted Y+ security are Sanjay Deshmukh (Yavatmal), Sanjay Bandu Jadhav (Parbhani), Sanjay Dina Patil (North Mumbai), Nagesh Patil Ashtikar (Hingoli-Nanded), Omraje Nimbalkar (Dharashiv), and Bhausaheb Wakchaure (Shirdi).
The move comes amid growing political tensions after six of the nine MPs elected on the Thackeray Sena ticket reportedly initiated efforts to form a separate group in Parliament. The rebel MPs have been facing protests and public resentment in their respective constituencies since their decision to part ways with the party leadership.
Following a review of the security situation and based on recommendations from the State Intelligence Department, the Maharashtra Home Department approved the enhanced security cover for the six MPs.
