PM Modi suggests lifting the 21-day lockdown in a 'staggered manner' post April 15

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took to Twitter to share the update, with a message that said that the 21-day lockdown post April 15, 2020, 'may be' lifted in phases, to ensure no crowding is observed again, soon after the decision is taken.

The number of coronavirus cases in India has increased over the last few days and keeping the current state in mind, PM Narendra Modi held an online meeting with all the Chief Ministers. Addressing the main concern on limited testing capacity, he emphasised that every state over the next few weeks should focus on 'testing, tracing, isolation, and quarantine' model, with an aim to contain the spread of coronavirus.

While they all discussed the scenarios and concerns about the critical situations in the individual states, PM Modi suggested the respective CMs, to lift the 21-day lockdown in phases and in a 'staggered manner' once it ends as scheduled on April 14, 2020.

He further said that the current coronavirus outbreak is attacked “our faith and belief and is threatening our way of life.” Officials, both at the national and state levels have been asked should come up with a common exit strategy to end the lockdown, thereby ensuring a “staggered re-emergence of the population” post this period. State government officials offered their suggestions regarding the same. 

Sharing the information, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took to Twitter and said that PM Modi has asked the state government to lift the lockdown in phases and not immediately from April 15, 2020. He has further asked us to ensure that people do not crowd once again and maintain the rule of social distancing.

Chief Ministers of other states like Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh also raised their points regarding the current outbreak, requesting the centre to consider relaxing Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) norms and seeking additional funds and medical support to tackle the crisis.

Further, CMs were also told to identify hotspots in respective states and cities and focus on a plan where the virus can be contained. State Governments were also asked to take a note of the medical supplies and maintain a stock of raw materials needed for manufacturing, thereby pressing on the fact that every important location has the a dedicated hospital facility for coronavirus cases. In addition to this, he said that the government can reach out to the resources on AYUSH doctors where they can train and make use of the paramedical staff, NCC and NSS volunteers. 

Preeti Sudan, Union Health Secretary, shared news about the increase in coronavirus cases in India due to the spread of members associated with the recent Tablighi Jamaat event. CMs shared their views and plans on how each state is tackling the situation, thereby ensuring safety. Leaders were asked to reach out to the community and social-welfare associations regarding the same, seeking cooperation during the tough times. Other ministers like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh were also present in the conference and they too shared their points, by emphasizing that some more states in India are yet to implement the lockdown strongly.
