According to the latest reports, on Monday, July 11, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), sought an FIR against Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray for allegedly making use of children in his party's campaign to save the Aarey forest.
Based on accounts, in a notice to the Mumbai Police, the NCPCR mentioned that it has attained a complaint alleging that Thackeray had used minors in the Yuva Sena, the young wing of Shiv Sena in its "Save Aarey" protests and political campaigns.
It reportedly also shared a Twitter link showing children holding placards as part of the protest. The commission in light of the same requested the police to investigate the issue promptly by filing an FIR against the accused. The NCPCR added that an "Action Take Report" as well as a copy of the FIR, and a statement of children be shared with them within three days of the receipt of the letter.
Reacting to this, Priyanka Chaturvedi, MP Rajya Sabha from the Shiv Sena mentioned, "What a joke! They were not part of Shiv Sena protests but citizens group." She claimed that the children wanted to meet Thackeray who has appreciative of their interest in forest conservation. She uttered, "Is this a new form of intimidation to stop citizens from protesting? Is saving forests now a crime?".

On Sunday, July 10, former environment minister Aaditya Thackeray joined the protesters at Aarey colony. Young people accompanied by a few middle-aged were seen protesting in the Aarey colony in Goregaon against the metro car shed project. They were seen holding placards and banners of 'Save Aarey Forest', while a few also raised anti-government slogans.
