Amid heavy downpour in Mumbai, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar held a meeting with senior party leaders to discuss the economic crisis and COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra. 

The meeting was held at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre in south Mumbai to also discuss the organisational issues. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, NCP MP Supriya Sule, Chhagan Bhujbal, Hasan Mushrif, Nawab Malik, Jitendra Awhad and Aditi Tatkare were present at the meeting. 

While returning home from party meeting, Supriya Sule captured the waterlogging in the premises of Mantralaya and the roads of south Mumbai on Facebook Live. Sitting beside her, Sharad Pawar expressed shock saying that this was the first time in his life that he has seen waterlogging in front of the Mantralaya (secretariat).

From Monday to Wednesday, Mumbai and its neighbouring areas recently witnessed heavy rainfall. Mumbai city and its suburbs were adversely affected with waterlogging and flooding in several areas. Instances of house collapse were also reported from different parts of Mumbai. 

In a span of 24 hours, south Mumbai received more than 330 mm rainfall as per the Colaba observatory while the western suburbs received 146 mm rainfall. Winds were gushing at the speed of 90 kmph on Wednesday and more than 100 trees have been uprooted. 

Amid the extreme rainfall, Pawar met the NCP leaders at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre which is situated at the close proximity of Mantralaya and Vidhan Bhavan in south Mumbai. 

“It feels like the sea has extended till Mantralaya,” said Sule as Pawar added, “This is the first time in my life that I have seen so much water in this part.”
