On Thursday, June 9 the NCP named Eknath Khadse and Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar as its candidates for the upcoming elections to 10 seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC), reports stated.

According to accounts, Nimbalkar is the current chairman of the Upper House of the state legislature. On the other hand, Khadse who is the former Maharashtra revenue minister had in 2020 resigned from the BJP and joined the NCP led by Sharad Pawar

Presently, the ruling MVA government constitutes, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP. It has been reported that the elections for 10 seats in the state legislature's upper house will be conducted on June 20.

Similarly, the Shiv Sena has fielded Sachin Ahir and Amasha Padvi's names for the legislative council, while Congress announced Chandrakant Handure and Bhai Jagtap as candidates. On the other hand, BJP nominated Pravin Darekar, Prasad Lad, Ram Shinde, Shrikant Bhartiya and Uma Girish Khapre.

Based on narratives there are 10 retiring members which include Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar, Subhash Desai, Diwakar Raote, Pravin Darekar, Prasad Lad, Vinayak Mete, Sadabhau Khot, Surjitsinh Thakur, Ravindra Phatak and Sanjay Daund. 

For those unversed, the members of the state legislative assembly entail the electoral college for the MLC polls. Moreover, the Rajya Sabha elections for six seats are due to be held on Friday, June 10
